History

Founded in 1935 in the township house on West Main Street, the Alexandria Public Library is THE gathering place of this Licking County village, population 500. Now over 7,000 sq. ft. with nearly 57,000 items and over 5,000 patrons, the Alexandria Public Library is administered by a seven-member Board of Trustees appointed by the Northridge Board of Education. Deirdre Schedwin has been President of the Board since 1987. Other current Trustees are Nancy Baker, Vice President; Kevin Berry, Secretary; Priscilla Horn, Clerk/Treasurer (since 1967); Pamala BeVier; Max Kackstetter; and Mark Raymond.

The library is staffed with a full-time director; part-time children's coordinator, young adult coordinator, adult services coordinator, cataloger, clerks and pages. Programming includes an adult book club, monthly adult presentations, bi-monthly young-adult activities, weekly toddler's story times, children's book clubs, and summer reading programs for library lovers of all ages.

Free computer, internet, and online database access is available to all patrons ages 10 and older. Joining the Central Library Consortium in September, 2006 has expanded our resources and allows our patrons access to materials in our own collection as well from the over 1.5 million items owned by the following public libraries: Fairfield County, Grandview Heights, Marysville, Pickaway County, Pickerington, Plain City Public Library and Wagnall's Memorial.

Library Policies

Everyone is welcome in our library. We ask that proper behavior be exhibited while visiting. Parents may not leave children unattended in the library and are responsible for their actions. We want everyone's visit to the library to be enjoyable and fulfilling.

All residents of Ohio are eligible to borrow materials from the library. To obtain a library card, you must complete an application and provide a photo ID. Children under the age of 18 must have the signature of a parent or legal guardian on their application to receive a library card. There is no charge for your first library card, but there is a fee for replacing a lost card. Library cards are available in key chain or credit card styles.

YOU ARE FINANCIALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL MATERIALS BORROWED ON YOUR CARD.
